A whole new light, GLOW!

This year, we have seen many new family friendly and safe experiences in making the holidays brighter! I’m delighted to share my experience of South Coast Botanic Garden located in Palos Verdes in a whole new light! Last night, I attended preview night for the first time ever nighttime art installation, GLOW!

The Garden’s fan-favorite collections like the Bohannon Rose Garden, Banyan Grove, Desert Collection and Living Wall dance with light in this festive installation. The walkable exhibit creates a unique vibrant color of garden lights & ocean waters, known as GLOW. Our family visited the garden last year when we took Everly for the first time for family photos. I knew I wanted to visit again and was happy to see this opportunity to visit with GLOW. My husband and I were highly impressed with the thousands of lights designed by California Outdoor Lighting for this special event. We even spoke to one of the installers on the trail and he wanted to make sure we had a great experience. We thanked him for his dedicated work of over a month for the beautiful art installation. There was such gorgeous detailed pieces throughout the exhibit that made me feel relaxed and can be seen as therapeutic. The transformation is absolutely stunning and even our little princess had a great time viewing all the colors in nature.

During the trail, you are highly recommended to physically distance from other parties. There are markers on the floor for distancing from the moment you check in. Everyone is guided in a one-way directional path with staff and volunteers providing direction and assistance to control the flow of visitors. There is an intro video you can view to begin the journey and then shortly will come across a beautiful light show that runs every 10 minutes. As you continue along the path, music fills your soul with relaxation and sets the mood, taking you through the oasis journey. What was my favorite part of the art installation? Spending time with my family and enjoying nature with beautiful lights. I loved it all!

Traveling with a little one? You can take your stroller and there is also stroller parking if needed as there are dirt trails through the exhibit. We decided to take the stroller throughout the trail and had no problem. We also brought outdoor snacks for her and a blanket as it’s getting a bit chilly at night. Kids under 4 are free. It is recommended children 2 and older wear a mask.

Additional info: glow sticks were available for purchase and the little one loved hers! We also had light up cups which was pretty fun to see around the path. The main entrance restroom was open and there are a few porta potties throughout the exhibit.

Starting today, this visually stunning garden is open through January 10th 2021. Timed tickets start as early as 5:30 p.m. and as late as 8:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased online as there are no ticket sells at the venue.
